Studio Provision / Artist Workspace
Matthew Macaulay in 2013 conducted nine months of research, funded by Arts Council England, to find sustainable models of studio provision that could be developed in Coventry. He worked with local studio provider Artspace Coventry to create a disucssion in the city around the planned and current state of studio provision. Partners and artists in the city where invited to take part in a total of twenty studio visits to studio providers thoughout Britain.
Classroom / Gallery & Project Space
This is a space for visual exchange, conversation and artist led activity. In January 2016 as a new Pluspace Project we started the 'New Coventry Group' which was meant to be a forum for artists in Coventry to address issues that affected their continual professional development. Through conversation and questionaires we found that better studio provision for 'dirty practice' and better quality exhibition space are needed in Coventry.
Pluspace Projects was founded as a gallery/project space in 2011, it was originally located in Coventry city centre square in a space which was once a restaurant called 'The Bridge'. before its founding the space was being used by Matthew Macaulay as his studio, he had an open studio event and a couple of artists asked if they could use his 'plus space' to exhibit their work. Pluspace grew out of this, and other conversations, with artists in Coventry, as a result the project has always focused on championing artists that where in the local region.
